Growing Up

Man my mission is going to help me grow up a little. So this week the weather changed drastically. We got up into the fourties and fifties. Which meant because of the drastic weather change we had to beware of TORNADOS!!! What?? So Thursday night they had a tornado watch which meant that we just need to beware. Well we were getting ready for bed when all the sudden i hear these sirens and I turned to sister Herndon and asked what that meant and she said those are the tornado sirens... Holy crap i was so scared. If i was at home and that happened i would not leave my moms side.... i know huh it is about time for me to grow up. Well since we dont have a basement to go down into we went into the bathroom... and both of us got in the bathtub (thats where they told us to go if we didnt have a basement) Luckily there was not tornado and it was just a funnel cloud that was spotted. But my goodness i was so scared.

This week has been fantastic though because of the warmer weather. That means we get to walk around instead of driving which means everyone is outside which means we get to talk to EVERYONE!! Which has been hard for me to get out of my comfort zone a little to talk to everyone. But it is great. We got a lot of potential investigators. We had a lesson with one of our investigators in a members home. Holy cow can i just tell you how powerful members are. The lesson was so spectacular. You members play a big part in missionary work. Get involved with the missionaries in you area. I promise you it will bless your life. I also talked to my first baptist this week. I now have another fear to get over... baptists...

But overall this week was just beautiful. I love the spring in the air and i love doing this work. It is super hard but it is so fun. Anytime we knock on a door we get this thrill because you just never know what it waiting for you on the other side. But it is amazing to see the light the Spirit brings into peoples eyes when they finally understand the truthfulness of the gospel. We are so blessed to be apart of this wonderful work. I love my mission. Thank you for all the wonderful letters and emails. I am so blessed to have friends and family like you. I love you all!!!

Love your Sister Davis :)

Moms Notes:

I asked Kirsten how are you REALLY doing, and this was her reply:

I really am doing good. I do still get homesick sometimes but i am getting better. I was singing Teach me to walk in the light the other day with sister herndon and i started crying cause you used to sing that to me all the time and it made me super homesick so i cant sing that song for 18 months but it is my new favorite hymn. Singing does not do me well. I am getting better. Dont get me wrong though it is super hard. But it is so hard because salvation is not a cheap experience.

Story of the week right here!!!

Oh my goodness STORY OF THE WEEK RIGHT HERE!

Okay so last night my comp and i were coming home from a recent converts home and we saw that we needed gas. Well there were no gas stations around us so we were like we should be fine. My comp said her mom drove like 200 miles one time after the gas light came on so we pressed forward for home. As we were driving we were telling stories about times at home when we have come so close to running out of gas and we were laughing and having a great time. Then when we were about 2 miles from the gas station my companion says "uh oh" and i was like "what" and then the car started slowing down and i was like "uh oh" and so i get out of the car and start pushing the car... by myself... in a skirt... well the car started picking up some good momentum until we got to the bottom of a little hill. then it started to slow down. Oh man at this point we were laughing so hard. Then a car pulled up behind us and this boy jumped out and asked if we could use some help. that was greatly appreciated! Luckily there was a firestation close by so we just pulled into there and called for some help. But man what an adventure. Oh another funny story. So a lot of you know how much i love junior mints and popcorn. Well every morning we have to do this training and it involves watching some gospel videos. Well one day we decided to pop some popcorn while we watched them then i remembered that i had junior mints. So during training videos i sit there and eat popcorn and junior mints. Just like old times. Oh and this cute lady in our branch made us these house slippers. I love them! :)

The mission field is so fantastic. I made it through one transfer so far and have about 11 more to go;) thank goodness. Cause my mission here is not done yet. It has only just begun. Since me and my comp opened a new area we are finally getting our feet on the ground and we have about 10 new investigators. We are loving the work we are doing. We see miracles happen everyday. I learned this week that the spirit is truly the teacher and my job is to just follow the promptings i receive from it. This gospel is so true and Heavenly Father is so powerful. I thank Him everyday for blessing me with the friends and family i have. I just want to thank you all for all you have done. Each of you have had some impact on me and i would not be where i am today without you.
The road is completely covered in ice... that is okay though cause as soon as it melts it will just be one big puddle!!! :)

I hope you all know you are sons and daughters of God. He loves you so much. He has a plan for each of us. I love you so much!! I pray for you daily! Remember who you are and what you stand for!

Love your sister Davis :)

Mom's comments:

I am staying!!! Wahoo there is so much work here left to do. Thank goodness. I love her.  (This is her reply after she found out that she wasn't being transferred and keeping her companion.  I'm so thankful for her companion, Sister Herndon, she has comforted Kirsten many times.)

She added another story in the email she sent to me.  It is amazing to hear her testimony get stronger everyday!!!

The other day we were at this part members home and she was explaining to us that she wishes so much that her husband would come to church but he is so against it. I had this over powering feeling to tell her to have family prayer each night and invite him to come join. I was a little hesitant but i did as the spirit directed and the feeling that came in the room as i, through the spirit, committed her to do that with her family was so strong.

Things are getting so much better mom! I love my mission. I am starting to adapt to this life.

Miracle Shovels

Hey everyone!!

What a week this has been. Where to start? Okay first a funny story. Me and my companion went to go visit a new move in, in the ward. Apparently she was a less active. But anyway we get there and the driveway was super steep and completely unshovled. So it was super icey. So we pulled off to the side instead of going down the hill in our car. Well when we got out to walk down the driveway we were hanging onto each other and my companion slipped and pulled me down and we slid all the way down the hill on our bums. We were laughing so hard we couldnt contain ourselves. Come to find out the person doesnt even live there. It was a vacant home. Yes it was quite the adventure gettin back up to our car.

I also experienced my first ice storm this week. It was awful. It was kinda cool though. When we woke up in the morning our car was completely covered in ice. It was fun trying to scrape it off the windows.

We had an awesome training this week from our wonderful mission president. We have a goal as a mission to get 720 baptisms. Wow!! We have got to work hard.

I also experienced a miracle this week. So since it has been snowing so bad it is a perfect time to help people shovel their driveways. Well as we were driving down the road we saw this lady struggling to shovel. So we stopped to help. As we were talking after we found out that she had been praying to know where God wanted her to go. She looked at us and told us she knows we were sent from him. How cool is that?? They are miracle shovels cause a similar experience happened later in the week too.

The work is moving right along. We have so much fun and learn so much as well. I am so thankful to have such great family and friends at home to support me. Know that all of you are in my prayers. I wish i had time to email each of you individually but know that I am thinking of you and each of you have had some kind of impact on my life. Be strong! I love you all!! :)

And she was worried about the lack of adventure she could
have in a dress.... I really don't think that is stopping her!!
Love your sister Davis :)

Oh ps i got mistaken for a nun this week because of the name "sister" haha oh people these days ;)

Mom’s note:

I also need you to send me my temple clothes the president told us every six months we get to go to the temple!! How awesome is that? :) (I know Kirst will be so excited to go to the temple again, she was so sad on her last visit to the temple at the MTC because she thought that it would be the last time for 18 months.)

Is there anything i can do for you mom? (Even though she is a thousand miles away she is still asking me this question.  I sure do miss this kid!!)

Hey y'all!... no joke that is how everyone talks here :)

Hey y'all!... no joke that is how everyone talks here :)

So this week has been great. I have decided I am going to develop lung cancer because we teach so many people with smoking addictions. Yes I smell like an avid smoker. Haha who woulda thought on a mission huh? The investigator we were teaching smoked four cigarettes just in the amount of time we were there. WOW! But hey at least we are fulfilling our purpose. It shows we are doing our work if the chapel smells like smoke right?

Anyway we also had a dinner appointment this week. When I asked if we could bring anything the lady said a salad. Well then I realized at that point we had no time to go to the store. So me and my companion made a salad with nothing but spinach leaves, celery, tomatoes and cheese. Luckily the lady had some salad dressing but hey what do ya do.

I am learning so much being out here on my mission. It is hard work. But I have become really close to my Heavenly Father. He is the only way I am going to make it through this. I realized how much I really don’t know about the gospel. But luckily it is a learning process all together. We had a really cool experience yesterday. It was testimony meeting and this active lady we visited a couple weeks ago and got up and bore her testimony on the impact that we had when we challenged her to ready the Book of Mormon. And how much it helped her. It was such an eye opener to me that we really don’t realize what we do when we have the spirit with us. That doesnt just mean for missionaries. As members of the church we have that opportunity to invite the spirit into someones home whenever we want to. Do it. It is so powerful:)

Well the weather warmed up this week to about 50 degrees. So it was nicer but still a little chilly. It is supposed to get cold again though. Dang it. But hey after that it can only get better right? Well sorry the email this week is so short. But I hope you all know you are in my prayers and I love you all so so much.
Sister Herndon and Sister Davis drinking  a "Golden Bear"

Love your sister Davis :)

So my companion says it is tradition to buy the trainee a golden bear. :)

Moms comment: I asked what kind of a drink exactly a golden bear is!!!
